Report – Arsenal attempt to hijack Man Utd’s bid for premier League star with a shocking offer

The England international is in high demand this summer following a stellar campaign for the Foxes. Manchester United and Manchester City have both been heavily linked with a swoop for the centre-back. Reports today suggest United have opened the bidding with a £100m offer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperate for a new centre-back and sees Maguire as the ideal candidate to plug his leaky backline. But Leicester is demanding at least £90m for the 26-year-old.

Despite their valuation, The Sun reports that Arsenal has approached Leicester about signing Maguire for £50m.

The Gunners reportedly have a budget of just £45m this summer, with any additional funds to be raised by player sales.

They’re looking to cut costs in the transfer market and they insulted Crystal Palace earlier this week by lodging a £40m bid for Wilfried Zaha.

The Eagles value their talisman at £80m and have made it clear they’re not willing to negotiate. And Leicester is expected to respond to Arsenal in a similar way following their approach for Maguire.

The former Premier League champions are under no pressure to sell after Maguire penned a new five-year deal last September.

Arsenal is keen to bring in reinforcements at the back, with Shkodran Mustafi heavily criticised last season, while Laurent Koscielny is not the same player since he returned from injury.

Maguire is United’s No.1 target and they’re expected to come back with a higher bid.

The Evening Standard reports that Solskjaer sees him as the ideal candidate to partner Victor Lindelof in defence.

The Swede initially struggled after joining two years ago, but he excelled last season and has climbed above the likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones in the pecking order.
