Chelsea injury boost as Lampard provides latest update on potential ace

The 28-year-old midfielder has continued to struggle with a knee injury that he first sustained during last season match, and was sent home from the pre-season tour to receive more treatment.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has prompt that N’Golo Kante may be ready to re-join the squad in training at Cobham at the weekend.

That without a doubt was a blow for Lampard, as he’ll hope to be as close to full strength as attainable for the season opener when they face Man Utd on August 11 at Old Trafford.

Fortunately although, it sounds like Kante are going to be in contention for the game, as Lampard has delivered the most recent update on the French international and suggested that it was a precautionary measure and he’ll be expected to improve his recovery in the coming weeks.

“I suppose it’s been more useful for him to be at Cobham with the facilities we’ve got there,” he told the media, as quoted by Sky Sports. “It’s not a backwards step that has been taken. He’s up and hopefully by the time we go back to and begin training towards the weekend he will be in a position to pretty much join in with us.

“I hope this facing Man Utd. I don’t wish to get ahead of myself as a result of he has not fully trained yet but the doctors are surely telling me it should be fine.”

Naturally, the Chelsea medical staff won’t greenlight a come back to training or being named in the beginning line-up till they feel Kante is ready, because the final thing that anyone concerned will need could be a further setback that sees him miss the beginning of the new campaign.

It will perhaps be a concern that he has missed out on playing time to build his match fitness and sharpness, however, Lampard doesn’t sound too distressed regarding the situation as more will undoubtedly be known at the weekend once the Chelsea squad come back from their tour and continue their preparations back in England.
