Two time Premier League winner hopes to pen £75,000-a-week EPL deal just months after leaving Chelsea

Crystal Palace is reportedly on the point of signing former Chelsea captain Gary Cahill, who is presently a free agent after leaving Stamford Bridge this summer.

The 33-year old, who joined Chelsea from Aston Villa in 2012, made two hundred and ninety appearances for the club, scoring only twenty-five goals and providing seven assists, helping the west London bridge win two Premier League titles in the process.

Last season, Cahill made eight appearances across all competitions, with then-manager Maurizio Sarri preferring Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz at centre-back.


He departed Stamford Bridge after lifting his second Europa League title in the capital of Azerbaijan.

According to the Sun, Crystal Palace have an interest in signing Cahill, with the defender hoping to land a deal worth £75,000-a-week at Selhurst Park.

The Sun also states that Burnley have been connected with a move for Cahill, but the Eagles are currently the front-runners in the race to land his signature.

Palace has made solely two signings this summer so far in the form of Stephen Henderson and Jordan Ayew, and given this report, it feels like Roy Hodgson’s side are eyeing up Cahill as their third transfer.

Despite being far from a regular last season, signing Cahill could prove to be a really useful signing for Crystal Palace.

With the amount of experience he has, the 33-year old can’t only fortify Palace’s defence, however, can also be a good role model to the numerous youngsters in the Eagles’ squad as well.
