Exclusive – Man United plot fresh raid for £70m summer transfer target in January

Manchester United is reportedly set to bid for Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen again in January after failing to sign him this past summer.

The 27-year-old has been a crucial figure for Spurs since joining them from Ajax in 2013, bagging sixty-seven goals and eighty-six assists in 281 appearances for the club.

It’s been a disruptive begin to the campaign though as he hasn’t featured often in the starting line-up, however, he showed his importance again this past weekend in the 2-2 draw with Arsenal after scoring a goal.

As noted by BBC Sport although, he has once again talked concerning his future has not been shy about discussing his desire to take on a new challenge, with Man United and Real Madrid named as the two possible clubs for him.

Ultimately an exit didn’t happen as he has remained at Mauricio Pochettino’s team, but The Sun has reported Man United are preparing to make another move for him in January with his current contract with his club set to expire next summer in January.

It’s noted that United was ready to pay around £70m on prising the Danish international away from Tottenham this summer, but given his contract situation, they’ll certainly be ready to offer less in January if Eriksen doesn’t sign a new contract deal before then.

From a Spurs perspective, they’ll be eager to see him commit his long-term future. If not, then at the very least they need to look to sell in January to avoid seeing him leave north London for nothing.

According to the Sun’s report, it adds that Real Madrid was his preferred club, but if they aren’t coming up with a swoop, then that may allow Manchester United to land their man as his priorities and preferences may change in the coming year.
